On Wednesday 18th March and Friday 20th March, the children at West Grove were visited by author Antony Lishak.
In Nursery, the children took part in a story workshop which they thoroughly enjoyed. He shared his “Clickety Clack” book with the children in Reception and “Row Your Boat” with the Year 1 children. Children in Year 2 were presented with the story “Baby Bear” and went on to write their own versions of it.
His visit to Key Stage 2 coincided with the partial solar eclipse and the theme for the day was “The day the world went dark”. The children watched a presentation by Antony before watching live streaming of the solar eclipse. They were then challenged with the task of becoming a published author, each writing a book entitled “The day the world went dark”. They could choose between fiction, non-fiction or a mixture of the two. The books were shared during Golden Assembly and one child from each class was awarded a signed copy of one of Antony’s books.
A group of children from Year 6 also joined Antony for a working lunch where they had the chance to show him a piece of their work and listen to any advice he had for them.
It was the third time Antony has visited the school and, yet again, he was amazed at the wonderful work the children produced. He had a fantastic time visiting West Grove and is looking forward to coming back!
